The total of my medical premium deductions is shown on box 12A of my W2 with the letters "DD" preceeding the the numerical amount. Can I deduct this as medical expenses?
No. W2 Box 12 Code DD is the Cost of employer-sponsored health
coverage. The premiums listed on your W2 in Box 12 with a DD code are
for information only, and not factored in when filing taxes. In
general, the amount reported should include both the portion paid by the
employer and the portion paid by the employee.
Anyway health insurance usually comes out of your paycheck pre-tax (meaning before taxes) and has already been deducted from your gross wages in box 1 on your W2 and you can't deduct it again. You only enter it from the W2.
