On the upside - this has usb type-C gen 1, which has power delivery (PD). You could use an external battery pack that supports PD charging. That's how I am getting by with my 38Whr (now 30 WHr...) Inspiron 7373.
ReplyDeleteIt will but you would have to swap out the HDD. Most people like to have both m.2 SSD for speed and regular HDD for media storage.
ReplyDeleteReviews on the 8th gen i3 are excellent. SSD prices are dropping too so you can upgrade this on the cheap and have a great laptop for just over $400. IPS screen on this is a huge plus over other budget laptops.
ReplyDeleteSomeone else can reconfirm this but I think for these Windows 10 laptops and tablets, the Windows 10 OEM key is tied to the device and is non-transferrable to another device, but you could install a new HD/SSD and Windows 10 will detect your laptop is authorized and install just fine.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if this is true if you are building your own PC, since the Windows 10 license you buy is not the same type that builders like Lenovo and Dell have (OEM license?)
It will automatically activate Windows. I do it all the time. MS gave up trying to make a profit from selling Windows 10 license already.
No it will detect the hardware and it will automatically be activated. Windows is tied to the motherboard.

ReplyDeleteFor windows installation, you could download windows 10 here:

Windows 10 uses the digital key that is written in BIOS, which means you could skip the serial code. Windows should be automatically activated after the installation of the correct version.
You can search "ShowKeyPlus" in github to find tools to reveal your hidden CDkey.
So I got the ssd installed and it boots to a useable windows 10 desktop in 10 seconds now. I took a few shots of the process, easy but it has a metal shield that wasn't shown in the earlier posted manual. So take the back screens out, use something to pop up the cover around the seam (I used an old taco bell gift card,) remove the 4 screws over the black shield & pull it up, unplug the battery connector, and you're good to install the ssd. Note that when reinstalling the black shield, there are four points on the bottom left & top that slide into clips, there are arrows pointing to their locations, so be sure to line these up as you reinstall the shield. fn + f2 to get to the bios, fn + f12 to get to boot menu. Here's the imgur album, for some reason it uploaded one of my photos twice and it's out of order - https://imgur.com/a/oIKPOGc
