许鞍华继「天水围2部曲」後转换风格拍摄的两性喜剧。故事讲述由吴君如、周慧敏饰演的一对双性恋人，分手多年後竟在「母亲的抉择」中重遇，年轻时的浪漫回忆涌现眼前，两人仍然锺爱对方，决定再走在一起。围绕在他们身边的是两个令她们意外怀孕的男人 --- 一个被老婆控告虐妻的男人 (张兆辉)，及一个仍在大学念书的俊小子 (陈伟霆)。四个人打破男女框框的两性关系，引发出一段又一段错中有爱的喜剧场面。电影片名的灵感来自台湾男女的流行用语，当两人情投意合要发生关系使是「炒饭」的时候了。
