What is XML and what is it good for?

XML is Extensible Markup Language. XML was designed to describe data and to focus on what
data is. It is important to know that XML was designed to store, carry and exchange data. It was
not designed to display data. With XML, data can be exchanged between incompatible systems.
With XML, plain text files can be used to store and share data.
